This fund was establish to raise money for education, screening, and travel expenses for the people of Garrett County.
Cindys Deep Creek Lake Loop 10 mile, 5K, and 1 mile fun run was held Saturday, May 9th.
I was a bit leary of this race. It was small!! I knew I would be last, but wanted to make sure I wasnt to far last. The race was advertised as 3 hour time limit (18.00) and the race director assured me that my 15 mm would be fine. SO, I signed up.
My husband went along and he did the 5K.
It was a cool morning and the grass was wet. And the humidity was 100%.
We started on the grass and a short jaunt on a trail and then went to the roadway. Everyone pulled ahead of me by mile one. I was last and alone. There were several hills. One doozy, but it was walkable. All of the volunteers were wonderful. No one left before I made it to their station. I did let them know that I was the last one.
The water was warm at the last two stations, I cant do warm water. The police officer at the last road crossing started following me in. It was a very narrow road, and he pulled ahead of me and all the traffic had to go to the other side of the road. I was embarrassed at all the publicity, but in a small way, it felt good. Several people clapping out car windows. They knew I was last!
After I crossed the finish line I asked the police officer if I could take a picture with him. I have been last in several events but this was my first true police escort.
