Foodie Pen Pal

This month I participated in the Foodie Pen Pal organized by Lean Green

I exchanged boxes of goodies with Megan from the Lyons Share. Shes from Dallas!! Home of my Cowboys!!!
Her blog is full of wonderful recipes, and a wealth of health information.

The box I received from her was full of goodies!! Many on the go goodies!! I lead a busy life, and love to be able to grab something quick and run out the door.

I LOVE white chocolate/yogurt covered pretzels!! Perfect combination of salt and sweet!!! And look at these amazing bars with peanut butter!! I LOVE peanut butter!!!

Thanksgiving Virtual 5K and Christmas Sock Swap

Restarting the logs

What happened to my exercise and food journal? I used to do that ALL THE TIME!!! 
Marc's blog post created an AH HA moment for me!! Got me to thinking, why did I quit? No clue!!
I still used My Fitness Pal to log (once in a while).

So I pulled out my forms and filled them out!! Its not near as detailed as it was the last time I used them, but that will come!! AND this will be part of my weekly update!! I LOVE to cross things off my to do list. (Sometimes I write things down after Ive done them, just so I can cross them off)  





I keep them in a notebook. I see I missed the date, I will add that! I will keep them in my notebook.

SO many worthy causes!

This time of year it is so easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, food, cooking, shopping, entertaining. I want to take a minute to highlight some wonderful causes Ive come across over the past few weeks.

Roni is raising money for a service dog for Judy.  Judy is a child with epilepsy, autism, cystic fibrosis, developmental delays, Duanes syndrome, club foot, and attention deficit disorder.
The following is taken from Ronis Weigh blog.
"I am hosting my first Virtual Turkey Trot 5k in honor of my Mom and Judy.
Our goal is to raise $13,000 and get Judy a service dog from 4 Paws.
4 Paws is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization that trains service dogs to work with disabled and special-needs kids in incredibly innovative ways. 4 Paws tailors the training of the dog to the needs of the kids and families they serve. Judy’s service dog will be trained to aide in behavior disruption, tethering, tracking and scent/seizure work."
Christy from My Dirt Road Anthem is running for ranchers.  She grew up in Montana and the recent blizzard in South Dakota left many ranchers devastated. Losing herds, their livelyhood!!

The blizzard that devastated over 6,000 ranching families in South Dakota left me wanting to do something to help.  This is a short video that summarizes the damage from the storm and what they are going through. Coincidentally my birthday is at the end of this month so I am going to do a virtual run for my birthday to attempt to raise money for the South Dakota Ranchers Relief Fund


Shrinking Jeans This amazing 10 year old boy is giving up his Christmas gifts to raise money to provide clean water. They are hosting a dietbet and your winnings can be donated. Or you can go directly here to donate as well.

 I have a special love for this boy, not only because he is extremely smart and cute {and mine!}, but because this is his fourth year giving up gifts to raise money for water sources for these people. All in all, he has raised over $13,000! Holy wow! This year, his goal is $10,000, so we are doing our best to help his cause.

Indiana Marathon Relay.

 Arrived at packet pick up for the surprise marathon relay this morning, and found NO LINES at the porta johns, AND they were CLEAN!! I was the first one!!! That has never happened to me before!!!
 There was confusion at packet pick up. The lady remembered my name, but they couldn't find my bib/shirt/packet.  I waited around for about 15 minutes while they searched. One of my relay teammates found my bib in her packet. "No wonder we had a size Large shirt left over". "Sorry we dont have any large left over but I do have XLarge or Medium." It was VERY cold and I was not about to try on both shirts behind the van!! So I took the XLarge. Its 100% cotton, so it will shrink when I wash it. Overall pickup was fast!! AND they had a Sheetz coffee truck!

Todays race was a marathon or marathon relay. First leg was 6 miles, second was 7, and I did the remainder. I did the last leg, so I waited in my warm van while the other two ran. IT WAS COLD AND WINDY!!!! They said last year it was so warm that the runners were having trouble with the heat. NOT TODAY!! It may have been 44 degrees but it felt like 35, and there was 25 MPH winds.
I saw a lot of this today. EMPTY trail. I was near the back of the pack when I started. Empty!! and no crowd support. DUH we were on a trail!!! I ran the first two miles and then my legs froze up. They hurt. I walked, and then tried to run, but I kept tripping. My legs wouldn't lift off the ground! So I started power walking. Every time I tried to run, I made it about a minute, and then Id have to walk. AND my lungs were on fire. I havent run outside in the cold since last winter, and my lungs new it!!! I wanted to lay down and throw a temper tantrum!! Or just stop!! But, I was on a team, and I WAS NOT going to let them down!!


 
I met this amazing lady at mile 16. She was running her first ever marathon, and she just gave birth 8 months ago. She said her motivation was that her family was waiting at mile 18. At 17 they popped out from behind a tree. The little girl went running to her, and grabbed her hand and said, come on mom!! And they would run a few steps and then walk. Brought tears to my eyes. As I was passing her, the little girl kept saying, You can do it, Youre doing great, Finish strong.  She passed me at mile 26 and I didnt see her again until the end. She totally rocked her first marathon!!



I cant believe I was smiling. I was cold and sore and stiff and just wanted to crawl into bed!!!

Stopped at Eat N Park for food. I had the Waffle, and hubby the Banana French Toast. (Spectating is hard work!! Especially on a cold day!! This is his second half marathon, and Im so glad he was there to help cheer, and help transport the teammates to the different transition spots. I started off with a VERY HOT cup of hot chocolate!!!



 Nice shirt! and a nice medal considering the cost of the race was only 26.20!!

I was very disappointed with my time!! I wasnt able to get the satellite when I first started, so this about half mile short.

Joy Johsnon


Joy Johnson loved to run. She started running 50 years ago AFTER she retired. This past sunday she ran teh New York Marathon for the 25th time, at the age of 86!!!! She was the oldest woman to run this year. 
She completed the marathon in 7 hours 56 minutes and 41 seconds. 

At mile 20 she fell and hit her head. She was bandaged by medics and was determined to continue on. The next day, she made her way to the Today show, and made an appearance with Al Roker. 
Afterwards she went back to her hotel room, laid down to rest, and never woke up.

WHAT and inspiration!!! Hard work, determination, and dedication!!! 
I want to be that motivated!! Not just about running, but about life!! About health!!


Thankful journal 

D.... Dancing in the rain, Daffodils, diversity, divine intervention ... I have no rhythm but I love moving in a light gentle warm rain!! Daffodils are one of my favorite flowers it brings spring and the refreshing new life! Im so thankful we are all different, diverse, what a boring world it would be if we were all the same!! Coincidence? Nah, I think He was there, Sometimes I dont like the answer or inconvenience of His intervention, but He knows best, He knows the whole picture... Late for work, maybe He protected me from the deer that bounded across the road.? Crock pot broken, He protected me from the short in the cord? Pants werent dry, He kept me from the embarrassment of the rip in that went unnoticed?

E... Edith, Eggs, Elbow macaroni, My amazing mom, she has taught me to love despite.... to work hard, and she taught some 'what not to dos', made me think and process why I do what I do, is it tradition (not always bad) do I do it because that's what I was taught to do, or is it truly what I think/believe. I love eggs, Love scrambled eggs!! Don't eat much pasta anymore, but elbow macaroni is a special treat!!

F....Forgiveness, Faith, Family, Friends, Fruit..... Learning to be thankful for fruit, (altho I wish it tasted more like chocolate!) Family and friends. Im so thankful to be blessed with family and friends when so many have hurtful painful and abusive relationships! Faith, the foundation of .. everything.. Forgiveness, both giving and receiving, even when its not asked for. Sometimes I need to forgive someone who has wronged me so that I can move on, even when they haven't asked, or admitted wrongdoing.

Scale Back!!

Thankful alphabet.

B..... Today I am thankful for books. I LOVE to read, but havent done much lately! My Body. Despite the horrible I sometimes feed it, it keeps going!! Balloons, they put a smile on your face, Hand a child a balloon filled with helium and watch them smile. What B are you thankful for today?

C.... Chocolate, Children, Church, Cowboys (Dallas ones). Chocolate is my coffee. Sometimes I only need/want a small piece and Im satisfied, sometimes I crave it. My kids sometimes make me weep, but more often bring me joy. Watching them grow in to adults. Making mistakes, taking chances, being independent, but still calling on me to help and share joys and sorrows. Church, whether the building or a gathering of Christian friends. So much more than a building! and My Dallas Cowboys!!!!

Weekly Weigh in

My last official weigh in was June 24, 2013.
Then life happened, and the weigh ins and goal settings stopped. My mother in law was placed on hospice in Colorado, clear across the United States. My husband and his siblings needed to get to her quickly to say goodbye, and to mend broken fences. My husband drove 8 (ish) hours to meet up with his siblings. He spent the day with his dad and after they were finished at work, they took turns driving 17 hours to Colorado. They made it, had a wonderful reunion, spent 3 days with her, and then they drove back. She has since passed away.
Son had lots of problems finding an apartment and ended up driving 120 miles a day for a PART TIME job, that he had to keep so that he would have it once college started this fall. So much for saving money for college books!!!
And the list could go on, but this is NOT a post to hash out the whys. This is a post say, Im doing weekly weigh ins again and I need goals!!!

Four pounds in 4 months. Time to get serious again, and stop 'maintaining'!!



My beautiful friend Julie has challenged me to eat a large helping of veggies every day. I DO NOT like vegetables. So one huge serving is a start. A sad start, but a start!!!

I took Romaine lettuce, and added some peppers, radishes, carrots, and one teaspoon of dressing. The peppers are new for me, and they were, um, ok. Ill have one of these each day for the next week.


Im also joining Shrinking Jeans in their Planking Challenge for November. Today was 20 seconds, so I did several of the poses.
