Foodie Pen Pal



I LOVE this program!!!  So far every single box has been wonderful.
Every month you spend a maximum of 15. in goodies and send it to someone. Someone else sends you a box of goodies!

There was also a peanut butter lara bar, BUT my box arrive just as I finished a 10 mile walk, and it didnt make it to the photo shoot. My love of peanut butter and chocolate were covered!!! The granola bars were amazing!!!

And now it's time for some details about Foodie Penpals.  In case you’re a new reader, here’s a reminder of what the program is all about:
-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal! 
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month. 
-Foodie Penplas is open to US, Canadian & European residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. Same with Europeans. We've determined things might get too slow and backed up if we're trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.

Sunday Thots

Several weeks ago a Grandmother, Daughter, and Grandson came into work (doctors office), Grandma was upset with the music that was being played in the waiting room.  She wrote a letter to the 'higher ups' and asked that we play Christian music. It would be calming to the patients who are sick or waiting for test results. She proceeded to explain to me and the doctor for 15 minutes why we should play Christian music. The witness we would be, the positive effects it would have on the patients.  She stressed the importance of Christians being a positive influence on the world.

Fast forward two weeks. Same grandmother and grandchild come back. When she checked her grandson in for his appointment I asked her for the note from the mother stating she gives grandma permission to seek treatment for her grandson for todays visit. I explained to her that the rules stated that anyone under the age of 18 had to have a parent or legal guardian with them at the time of treatment.  She said, "Just a minute Ill go outside and write one, and be back in." UM, EXCUSE me! I told her I would not be able to accept that. She proceeded to talk...... and when she gave me free minute, I said something like, "What youre proposing to do is forge a signature, which is illegal, and very unethical".  I stressed the unethical part.

Its people like her, that give Christians a bad name.

BUT it also made me stop and think, when do I cut corners, when do I not show my Christian love. When do I act like grandma?
Stop and think before I speak or act!

I love packages!!!

(I actually won these a few months ago, and am a bit late in sharing!)

I won a handana from For the Love of the Run. I actually won this earlier this winter and I was hoping to try it out, OUTSIDE! But thanks to all the snow we have here in the north, it may be July before that happens.
I love my handana. Visit the website and see Katies personal story that led to her invention. Its like a sweatband that you wear on your hand rather than your wrist or your forehead. I thot it might distract me, but within minutes I forgot it was there. No more sweat dripping in my eyes! And its great for that snot 'nasal drip'. And after a wash, it came out just as soft as before. AND its made in the USA!




I also won a Gymboss!! Thanks for the great giveaway from Designed to be Fit.  Its great for intervals. Im finding that right now in my training Im using a run 5 minutes walk 2.  It can also be used for circuits. My daughter, Amber, used it at the gym while she was doing her circuits. (She designed her own, what a woman!!)
The Gymboss has a handy clip to secure it to your waistband, treadmill, or anywhere you can clip, or just hold it in your hand. It takes a AAA battery. At first I was a bit intimidated by the set up. BUT, I was not going to be outdone by a small gadget. When I turned it over to insert the battery, I found the instructions for set up printed on the back of the timer!!  Wondering if maybe I missed something, I went to the website and found this great instruction sheet and video. Im sure one came in my package, but in my cleaning frenzy several days ago, Im thinking it was pitched. In addition to intervals its also a stopwatch. AND the intervals can be signaled by a beep and/or a vibration. The alarms can be set for 1 to 9 seconds. I cant wait to use it outside this spring!!  They also have a Gymboss Max, it looks like it has more intervals and you can save up to 25 intervals.

I LOVE POTATOES!!! Almost as much as peanut butter and chocolate!

Trying new to me foods: Take Two, (Im a very picky eater!!)
(Take one was way back in well, I cant find it. I tried a Rutabaga)
Love love love them!! Almost as much as peanut butter and chocolate.
After a good workout or good run, I love some potatoes and eggs!!
I boil them, let them cool, then put some Olive Oil in the pan, shred the potatoes and fry em up!!
I grew up on a farm and we had potatoes with EVERY SINGLE MEAL!!!


SO, in my quest to be healthier, I decided to try Sweet Potatoes. Ive had sweet potato casserole. My sister in law makes the BEST ever!! Full of brown sugar, nuts, yumminess!!! Ive had a baked sweet potato, and I had to add some brown sugar and a bit of butter to be able to handle it. I will get there!!! Anyway, when I peeled it, they looked white, not orange. (Maybe I grabbed a white sweet potato).  I shredded it up, and fried it. I didnt add any seasoning, wasnt sure what to thro in with it. (any ideas?)
Quickly did my 1/2 C of eggbeaters and one real egg, and sat down for my feast.

I actually enjoyed it. Wasnt like my regular potatoes and it may take a bit to get used to, but I think I can handle this as a substitute for the Idahos I usually eat.

I needed a swift kick in the rear!

And I got it from Amber and Rachelle.  Neither of them said anything to me or sent me an email. They just challenged me in their own quiet way.
This time of the year, every single year,  I find myself in funk. I feel blah, Im tired of snow, I wan to moan and groan and complain!

Rachelle posted her virtual 5K on Wednesday. Rachelle doesnt know this, but she has been a very big inspiration to me!! She takes time out of her busy day to encourage me on my posts. (she even taught me its ok to rant!!) SO, this morning, after almost three weeks of absolutely no running,(lots of walking tho) I decided to get off my duff and start again!! It took me 44 minutes to do 3.1 miles. I did it with 5 minute runs 3 minute walks. (Week 5 day 1 of C25K) Im not using this time as my final time for grandmas birthday, because I still have until the 21st to add some speed!. Thanks Rachelle, for giving me the push I needed to 'move it'.!!



Amber is my daughter. She now has a blog. Go check her out. Go ahead, Ill be here when you get back.
She was recently diagnosed with Lymes disease. Suffered from lots of joint pain!, BUT she didnt let that stop her! She pushed thru!! Over Christmas break she went to the gym with her dad, Body Pump, Spin, Body Combat.  She walked every single day. Snow and ice did not stop her.

She has an amazing life story, (a blog post in its own). BUT, she has managed to work thru pain, and frustration and lose 122 lbs so far. Shes an amazing inspiration!! And she hides the Peanut Butter M & Ms when Ive eaten to many!!!

Three things or four, well maybe five...

2.....I am ready for spring!!! Punxy Phil didnt see a shadow, so its only 6 weeks away. (Hes never right!!) Im tired of being cold, shivering, snow, and all things winter!!








3...My oldest two are back in college, and life has gotten routine again. Work, facebook, read blogs, sleep, repeat.... My daughter made some amazing creations while she was home! Homemade Lara Bars
oatmeal muffins (no wheat) no pictures. I miss my kids!!

4.... My husband ran over a boulder and tore the bottom of the car. OK it wasnt a boulder, but it was much bigger then a rock!!! Thankfully its not totaled, but it sure is hard only having one vehicle while its being repaired.

5.... This is what I woke up to on Tuesday.  The front tire was flat, and the spare was dry rotted/corroded. So thankful that Tuesday was my day off. I managed to clean my kitchen counter and the dining room table. They no longer have a years worth of paperwork strewn all over them. (and two rotten squash)
