My hands are swollen and my pants dont fit!!

Whats going on!?!?!?

I have been wearing my wedding band on my middle finger because it slides off my ring finger.   I woke up this morning and my ring was STUCK and very painful!!! It took lots of butter and cold water and 45 minutes of praying to whomever unsticks rings!!

After the lube job, I realized I was late for my car ride to the gym. I put on my gym shorts (YES, the ring fiasco was without shorts on!!) AND they were to tight!!! What in the world!! So I got out my handydandy tape measure. Thank you Mir for including waist measurements in the E to E Challenge.
AND the ()#U%&)#($U#)(U$#)( measure said 49 inches (tire one)  THATS 5 INCHES!!! What the heck!!!!

I dont have edema (swelling) in the legs, its only in my hands and my belly.

This is my food log for the last three days. Anyone with any suggestions?


  1. Does your tracker track sodium? And girl, what's with that low protein eating? Dieters need protein, or muscle loss is enhanced!

    I would say things like the Kraft Mac tends to be quite salty.... but which night was that? Last night? That's a lot of bloat...and you are wasting calories on non-nutritious stuff. I'd back away from pretzels and breadsticks and treats and focus on veggies, protein and some fruit for a while to debloat. If it's just sodium bloat, being on a simpler protein-veggie-fruit plan will debloat you.

    Unless you're having other symptoms--did you check your blood pressure?

    If you're having other symptoms--ie, it's not just ordinary bloat--like increased BP or soemthing, call your doc.

    But it might just be from not having your sodium/potassium in balance.

  3. makes me angry when people start dieting and doing the right thing and this freaky stuff happens. I have had bloat from processed foods containing salt, too much splenda maybe...but never 5 inches.. That would make me so angry. Like did an alien approach you in your slumber and implant an alien baby in you or what? Dang! I play the elimination game. I will omit an item entirely to see if it is the problem. You may have some intolerance issues? I would surely run to the doctor on that, though.

  4. I agree with Mir, a bit more veggies and lots of water and less salt should help. It's hard, I know it is and with a family it makes it worse. You'd doing good Debbi, but try to flush it out with lots of water and fresh veggies.

  5. Deb, I have been trying to comment on your blog but blogger never seems to let me. I hope this will get through this time. Have you ever heard of gluten free diet programs? From what I understand, gluten can cause swelling around the waist area for those who have a sensitivity to it. Maybe read up on gluten free plans and see if it sounds like something you should try. I hope you feel better soon.

  6. I haven't had any issues since we went gluten free here. I know it's not for everyone but it did work for us. Of course, everything is made from scratch now and takes way more time, but it's been well worth it!

  7. I can tell when I'm retaining water because my rings (now loose) also won't come off. I haven't experienced that kind of belly bloat though. I hope that you're getting enough water, reducing your sodium and eating a little more potassium (plums/prunes, bananas, potatoes (not mashed).
