Goals

I have never been one to make resolutions for the New Year. In the past I was always afraid of failure. "If theres a chance of failure, then dont even try", has always been my mantra.

WELL, 2012 is different.  Im making myself a list of goals!

Yesterday on Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans Mel posted the following acronym for goals. SMARTER..... I like this!! This is copied directly from their wall. With this in mind, I made the following goals. I have 366 days. (yes, 366, its leap year)

"If you aren’t familiar with S.M.A.R.T. goals, here’s the rundown of how it works. Goals must be:
  • S pecific – What do I want to accomplish? Do you want to lose weight? If so, how much?
  • M easurable – How will I track my progress or know when I’ve reached my goal?
  • A ttainable – Is this goal something I can actually finish within the specified time frame? Perhaps your goal is to run 100 miles per month. If you’re a seasoned runner, this could very well be an attainable goal. However, if you’re a novice runner, then it probably wouldn’t be as attainable.
  • R elevant – Is this goal something I really care about completing? If it’s not something you care about, then it’s not something that will keep you motivated to finish and complete.
  • T imely – Set a time frame for whatever goal you set for yourself. If there isn’t a time set, it becomes far too easy to procrastinate. Setting the time frame gives us a clear end date we can work toward to help stay on track.
Now, some folks will say that S.M.A.R.T.E.R. goals are even better than a S.M.A.R.T. goal. It’s all of the same criteria outlined above as well as these two additions:
  • E valuate – During the whole goal process, we need to evaluate to see if we’re staying on track or if there are tweaks we need to make.
  • R eward – Don’t forward to take time to reward yourself along to way as a small way to help keep yourself motivated to continue

Ben Does Life has an exciting Challege coming up.

This comes directly from his blog.
While maintaining a little surprise for the people who join, here is a little information on the 12-week challenge.
  • Starts next Monday, January 2nd.
  • There will be a new theme launched each Monday with a challenge for the week.
  • Every Sunday we will choose a winner of the week. Prizes each week to the winners.
  • There are no physical requirements to join (i.e. there are no “run 30 miles this week.”) Not all challenges will be of the physical variety and the ones that are will be adaptable to any level of fitness, so don’t worry.
  • $10 joining fee to help cover costs of prizes and shipping. Also, I’m always more committed when I pay some money, no matter how much. We want everyone to stick with the challenge through all 12 weeks.
  • There will be a dedicated messageboard at DoLifeMovement for the challenge.
  • Registration ends Friday at 11:59 p.m. so, join up!

Best Gift Challenge

Beginning Weight: 210.2
Current Weight: 194.0 (-.6)
Total Lost: 16.2

My goal as stated here was to maintain the last two weeks of December.

I was able to lose .6 lbs. rather than just maintain. (insert sigh of relief!!!)
My statement:

"This Holiday Season, I want to contine to lose weight. To be healthy, to not fall off the 'wagon'. I want to encourage others in their journey and learn from them. This Christmas I want to be able to say that I have done my best and see a loss on that scale. I want to learn to control what I eat, when I eat, and why I eat. I want to be in control."
Weight 194.6
2. Calories: I increased my calories to 1400 - 1600 calories this week. This is my maintain caloric intake.  I knew there would be parties, get togethers, plays, fun. And rather than screw up and beat myself up over the extra calories, I decided to plan ahead. I survived the sweet tooth challenge.  I want three weeks with no desserts, candy, cake, brownies, icecream!!!

3. Exercise:This week I ran both a 10k and a 5k!!!!!!! My daughter is home from college as well. She taught me some of the ab and arm workouts shes been doing at the college gym. OH do my abs scream!! But its such a good pain!!!
4. Water: I had 100oz in each and every day!
5. Sleep. I still struggle with this one! I need to manage my time so much better!!

Merry Christmas~

Christmas 5K

Today I ran a 5K. for the Virtual Holiday Races hosted by Daily Vitamin F.  If you want to get in on the fun, She has another one for New Years Day.

The printhead on my printer is messed up and it wont print black. So rather than print the bib, I had my daughter take a pic of me and the laptop.

I started with a 5 minute warm up. I wish I wouldve hit reset and had the whole 5K as a run. BUT, alas, I didnt. My pace was between 13.0 and 13.3.  My legs were abit sore from yesterdays 10K.

Tonight is our Christmas Eve service at church. Time to celebrate out Saviors birth.
The close of the service is candlelighting (or glow sticks for the youngsters) while we sing  Silent Night. So very powerful!

After the service my hubs, kids, parents, siblings, neices and nephews all go out for a late supper to the local truck stop. This tradition that has held since I was 7 years old.  When I was young, money was very very tight for my parents, so we would only be able to get a cup of hot chocolate, and enjoy our family time.  This was huge for us, because going out to eat wasnt something we were able to do.

Tonight I had a delicious platter of scrambled eggs and home fries!! YUM, so delicious!!! And, as always we leave a generous tip for the staff who had to work on Christmas Eve.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas, or Happy Holiday!

10K

I just ran a 10K!!! Stephanie at Run for Fun and two of her friends hosted the virtual 10K. I was scheduled to run for 60 minutes in my 10K training. So, I decided to take a chance and go for it! So glad I did!!! I took it slow and easy, but I finished!! My daughter was on the treadmill beside me, and we did it together!! So very proud of her!!

I desperately needed a bathroom break, so I had to pause my treadmill. When I got back, it had erased my data, so I had to start over. But add then together and you get 6.21 miles!!!!  It took me 1 hour 27 mins and 2 seconds to run this baby.  This total includes a 10 minute warm up walk and a 5 minute cool down walk.
Most people in the running world would consider this very slow!! BUT, I am proud, I finished, I own this!!!  I RAN A 10K!!!!!!!!

Maintain?

Maintain? Lose? Gain?

When I was with Weight Watchers, the leaders always said to choose now what you want to do over the holidays.  Maintain, lose, or gain?  Make the decision now, so you can plan. Dont go into the festivities blindly.

Well, gain is definately out of the question!!!

This year, my choice is to maintain. (Lose would be amazing)

This year, I choose, maintain. I will still track my calories! I am allowing myself to add 300 calories per day. That is what Livestrong says I can add to stay the same. I will start on Friday, December 23rd and go back to 'normal' on Sunday, January 1st.

On Sunday, December 18th, 2011 (my weigh in day) my weight was 194.6

Final Weigh in for Christmas Dress Challenge

Thankyou to every one of the challengers who encouraged me, pushed me, inspired me, and kicked me in the butt!! I will miss this wonderful group of women!!!

I learned that stress REALLY plays a VERY big role in weight loss!! I use food to console me, or to deprive myself, depending on the situation.  Lack of sleep causes me to eat more!

Accountability is a wonderful tool!! Knowing that I have to check in every Sunday has been very inspiring.  No, I dont want that Large McDonalds fry! No, I dont want that bowl of ice cream. I want to lose!! Yes, I do want to do that extra 30 minutes on the treadmill! I do want to go to Zumba today!

I am listening more to what others have to say! I used to think, 'I know how to do this! I dont need to listen to what others have to say." That is so wrong. I am now soaking up the information.  Researching to see if it may work for me.

I wish each of you the best as you continue this journey of weight loss and maintenance!
Blessings
Debby
Beginning Weight: 209.8
Current Weight: 194.6  (-3.0)
Total Lost: 15.2

Final Weight 194.6  I made my 15 lb goal!!!
2.  Calories: At the beginning of the week they were down a bit. I ended up with the stomach flu. Nothing stayed inside me for 48 hours.  But the rest of the week was good, with 1000 to 1200 calories each day.  Im still participating in the Sweet Tooth Challenge.  My Challenge was to have no cakes, cookies, chocolates, candy or desserts until after Sunday, December 18th. I was very surprised how much I craved chocolate the first few days. Then after that the craving was gone, and it was very easy to walk away or say, "No thankyou". Once the challenge is over for me, I will limit myself to one a day.

3. Exercise:  The beginning of the week it was nonexistant since I was either in bed or in the bathroom.  The rest of the week was slow. I could tell I was week and tired.  Today its back to running again!! YES!!!

4.  Water:  Monday and Tuesday NONE.  The rest of the week I was playing catch up. I felt thirsty ALL THE TIME!! (No Im not a diabetic!)

5.  Book: Made to Crave: I loved this book!! It has really made me realize that this is very much a lifestyle change, NOT a diet!! It has also made me look at what I crave!! Crying out to God when things get rough in everyday life, is a given. Why is He not our go-to guy with weightloss?  He does want to hear about it. YES He does care, even about this!!

6.  Sleep. I still struggle with this one! I need to manage my time so much better!!

Pictures!!!!!!
 09-11-2011
I wanted to get into this outfit by the end of the challenge.
This picture:  Shirt 16-18 and pants size 18

I decided to try on the pants and this is what I found. THEY FIT!!!!

On Ocotober 23rd, I replaced the grey pants with a black pair of size 16 pants, and a size 16 dress.

OH those rolls!

Then on December 1st, the pants zipped. Still a bit tight, but they zipped!!!

Yesterdays pics (12-17-11)
This is the first outfit

This is the second pair of pants. Still pretty tight. Note the bulging muffin top!

And this is the dress that I absolutley love!!! If I had some body shapers for that middle bulge it would fit so much nicer!! But I can feel a BIG difference in how it fits today, compared to October 23rd.

quitting is not an option

Ever get frustrated and just wanna quit?!!? Wanna just give yourself one day of 'cheating'? One day just for you? One day to just eat fried chicken and french fries and wash it down with a chocolate shake?

Ive had a very hard week. Im exhausted. Physically and mentally!! Church meetings that lasted til 1230AM.  Called in to work an extra day, giving me over 60 hrs this week.  You'd think with 60 hours the money would just be pouring in. BUT, bank account is dry.

This week I havent had trouble overeating, its undereating!! When I get stressed I either eat nothing, or everything.  For some reason, this week was nothing!

Im not sure what I couldve done to make this week better, stress wise, but if I wouldve PLANNED it out better, Im sure theres something I couldve done different!!!

Today while I was catching up on some reading, I ran across this blog. DONT wait til Monday!! Take control now!!! She says it much better than I can.

Don’t wait until Monday to start living your life! You are worth TODAY. - Average Moms Wear Capes

Beginning Weight: 209.8
Current Weight: 197.6  (-2.0)
Total Lost: 12.2lbs

Beginning Weight: 210.2
Current Weight: 197.6 (-2.0)
Total Lost: 12.6
Todays Weigh in: 197.6  (-2.0) this week (very surprised!!) I thot with the low calories I would see a gain!  That 15 lb loss that was my goal, is actually in reach. 2.8 lbs needed by next Sunday Morning!!

Im surprised how easy its been to JUST SAY NO!!! My son is having  a bake sale to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation, and there are cookies and candy all over the house. BUT, I am saying no. (until December 18th)
This is my all time favorite combination!! Chocolate and Peanut butter.  We made 30 doz of these babies today!! WE also made some Chocolated cover Ritz peanut butter crackers. YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!
My boss took the week off last week (First week of deer season) and he had this sent to the office.  Hes a chocoholic and he wanted us to eat if before he got back.  I put it in the back room, and did NOT go back there for 5 whole days. I did not have one of those amazing brownies.  I was told that they were amazingly delicious. The smell of the mint one made me drool!! BUT now that they are gone, I realize, I didnt miss anything!! The taste and enjoyment  would be long gone, and I can rejoice that I dont have those extra calories to burn off!!

2.  Calories: This week was BAD!!! On Monday I had 1255, but the rest of the week I had between 500 and 700. Every time I tried to eat, I got sick to my stomach. When Im under a lot of stress I either eat absolutely everything in my kitchen ,or nothing at all. This week was nothing at all!! I finally forced myself to drink some smoothies so I could get my fruit!

3. Exercise:  Still working on Brad Gansbergs 10K I had an amazing 55 minute run.  I usually have trouble doing the 30 mins, but for some reason on Sunday I was feeling GRRREEAAATTT!!  I also went to the gym and did some rowing, weights, med balls, and tried the spin bikes.

4. Water: I was able to get in my 100oz every day!! Im so thankful that this is so easy for me!! One thing I dont have to fight myself for!!

5.  Book: Made to Crave: We were made for more!! More than shoving junk into my mouth! More than eating a Super Sized French Fry.  More than what I give myself credit for!!! Find that 'want to'. Find that desire, and run with it!!!

6.  Sleep.  5 to 6 hrs each night!!! Sunday is going to be a big nap day!! I can feel it!!

This week has been full of great challenges:

3.Excersize:  This week Ive been training for Brad Gansbergs 10K program.  I ran a virtual 5K with Enduring Hope. I did two days of free weights, medicine balls, one day of Body Pump.
4. Water. I drank 100 to 125 oz of water/flavored water every single day!! I love to drink me some water!! I also enjoy the zero calorie SOBE waters and the Crystal light flavor packets.
5. Book. Made to Crave by Lysa Terkeurst: So down to earth. A good Christian perspective on the Weight loss journeys ups and downs.
My statement for Give Yourself the Best Gift:
"This Holiday Season, I want to contine to lose weight. To be healthy, to not fall off the 'wagon'. I want to encourage others in their journey and learn from them. This Christmas I want to be able to say that I have done my best and see a loss on that scale. I want to learn to control what I eat, when I eat, and why I eat. I want to be in control."

8. (NSV) Financial....I want to make and stick to a budget for Christmas gifts, food, travel.. Money is so very very tight. Im so thankful my children are used to celebrating the true meaning of Christmas and do not expect lots of gifts!!! We usually spend $30 to $50 on each of them.

9. (NSV) Sleep...Giving my body the rest it needs. This past week was horrible!! I was up late for work/meetings/travel every single nigh this week. The last two nights Ive had 5 -6 hrs of sleep. I am preparing for our churches 2012 budget meeting and it takes lots of premeeting prep!

Virtual 5K

Today I ran my 5K as participation in the Hope Endures Virtual 5K.

This 5K is in honor of Courtneys daughter Ashlynn who was still born.
After Ashlynns death, Courney wanted to change her life. She found a love of running, and healthy living.  She is now inspiring others to endure life after an event that makes you feel hopeless.

Todays 5K which was interrupted twice by 'emergancy' Christmas light hanging phone calls from my husband. These phone calls caused me o walk for a few minutes. BUT, even without the phone calls, this is rather slow by 'runner' times. BUT, for me! I finished it, and Im proud!
